COURSES OF STUDY IN HIGHER SECONDARY LEVEL :
 

The College offers H.S. courses in Arts, Commerce and Science streams with combination of subjects as under.
 

H.S. ARTS
1.1 Group – I
English, MIL ( Assamese, Bengali, Hindi ) /Alternative English.
1.2 Group – II (Any four from this group including one as additional)
Economics, Education, History, Political Science, Adv. Assamese, Anthropology/Sociology, Computer Science & Application, Mathematics, Statistics.

H.S. COMMERCE
1.1 Group – I
English, MIL ( Assamese, Bengali, Hindi ) /Alternative English, Business Studies, Accountancy.
1.2 Group – II (Any two subjects from this group including one as additional)
Economics, Salesmanship & Advertising, Commercial Arithmetic & Elements of Statistics, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science and Application.

 

H.S (SCIENCE)

1.1 Group – I

 English, MIL (Assamese, Bengali, Hindi) /Alternative English
1.2 Group - II

Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology, Statistics, Anthropology, Computer Science and Application, Economics.
Note : It is desirable that the students intending to offer Physics, Chemistry as elective subjects must offer Mathematics also as one of the elective subjects.

General Information :
i] A student offering Computer Science & Application as an elective subject in Science/Arts /Commerce stream shall have to offer Mathematics & two other elective subjects including additional subject.
ii] Syllabi for Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science & Application are the same for Arts, Commerce and Science streams.
iii] It is desired that students of all streams shall choose their elective subjects keeping in view their courses of higher studies in general and other professional courses.
Every learner at the +2 stage would be required to participate compulsorily in an area of co-curricular activities (CCA) out of NCC, NSS, Rover /Ranger, Games and Sports (Any one from Athletic and other games), Cultural and Literary, Debating and Quiz.

 

COURSES TO STUDY UNDER DEGREE SEMESTER PROGRAMMES

 

BACHELORS IN ARTS

 

1) There shall be a course of study of Three Years duration leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Arts. It shall consist of six semesters.
2) Eligibility criterion : A student who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10 + 2) of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council / CBSE / etc or an equivalent examination (10 + 2) recognized as such by the University, shall be eligible for the admission into the first Semester of the Six-Semester Degree Course in Arts under semester system.
3) Total Marks : The total marks of BA (General) & BA (Hons) shall be 2400 marks.

* MIL (Assamese, Bengali, Hindi)
* Notes : In lieu of M. I. L Alternative English may be offered.
* Non – Major courses available : Economics, Pol. Science, History, Education, Sociology / Anthropology, Mathematics, Statistics
* Major – Courses available : Assamese, Economics, English, History, Political Science, Sociology.

 

BACHELORS IN COMMERCE

 

1. There shall be a course of study of three years duration leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com). It shall consist of Six Semesters.
2. Eligibility Criteria : A Student who has passed the Higher Secondary Examination (10 + 2) in Commerce / Arts or Science of the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council / CBSE / ICSE or an equivalent examination (10 + 2) recognized as even by the University shall be eligible for admission into the First year of the Three year Degree Course in Commerce.
3. Course structure : The Bachelor of Commerce (B. Com) programme under semester system shall be conducted as :
a) B. Com (General) Course &
b) B. Com (Specialty) Course : Accounting & Finance / Marketing.
 

BACHELORS IN SCIENCE

 

1. There shall be a course of study of three years duration leading to the Degree of Bachelor of Science. It shall consists of six semesters.
2. Eligibility criterion – A student who has passed the Higher Secondary Education Council, or an equivalent examination (10 + 2) recognized as such by th university shall be eligible for admission into the First Semester of the Six- Semester degree course in science in semester system.
3. Total Marks : The total marks of B.Sc. (Gen) & B.Sc. (Hons) shall be 2400 marks.

FACILITIES:

 

MARGHERITA COLLEGE MERIT AWARDS

The student securing the highest percentage of marks in the H.S. Final Examination out of the three streams will be given a cash prize of Rs. 10,000.
The Best (Major) Graduate (min 1st Class) from among the three streams will receive a cash prize. If the criteria for Graduate (Major) is not fulfilled then the first among the distinguished students (Core subject) will receive the prize of Rs. 10,000.

 

FREE EDUCATION SCHEME

The College provides concession to students securing 60% and above and free education to students securing 75% (star marks) in HSLC and H.S. Examination.

 

MARGHERITA COLLEGE BEST SPORTSMAN AWARD

The college has the tradition of presenting the Best Sportsman Award every year.

 

BEST STUDENT AWARD

The college gives Best Student Award every year on the basis of results, regularity and participation in various activities of the college.

 

FINANCIAL SUPPORT

The college has provision for financial support to academically brilliant as also for economically disadvantaged students.

 

NSS

The National Service Scheme (NSS) develops a sense of social responsibility in students through a variety of social welfare and development activities. The student desirous of participating in these activities can join the Margherita College NSS wing.
1. Time of enrolment as NSS volunteers is during the first month of academic session.
2. No. of volunteers enrolled in every session are 100.
3. NSS day is celebrated every year on 24th Sept.

 

NCC

The College NCC wing imparts training to students interested in Army, Navy and Airforce. It inculcates the spirit of discipline, patriotism and community service.

 

YOGA CENTRE

It exists with regular programmes on yoga. In 2007, a 3 day workshop on "Sahaj Raj Yoga" was conducted . In 2008, a yoga Project was done. In 2009, a 3 month certificate course and in 2010 an awareness Programme were carried out.

 

WOMEN STUDY AND DEVELOPMENT CELL:

Right from its inception, the cell has been conducting awareness programmes on health practice for women empowerment. Regular exhibitions on arts & craft. A Workshop on legal rights of women; Lecturer on gender- violation, Health camp in remote areas, Social Service by distribution cloth items; Training Programmes for girls were done campaigning program women oriented works and participatory in capacity Building Program are done by faculty members.
